This nature walk was originally the Ballyarnett Racecourse track renowned for its steeplechasing from as early as 1700 until 1926. Development along the fringe of the course restricted its use for horse racing and in recent years the majority of the old track has been developed as a nature trail for all to enjoy. Somerset Wood is situated on the A54 Kilrea Road and has a large car park with open grass areas and picnic tables. From here two waymarked paths lead through a wide variety of broadleaved and conifer trees.
